The Arthur Jordan Foundation offers four types of grants.

  1. Operating support: Unrestricted grants for any organizational expense.
  2. Program support: Grants for a regular program or start-up program.
  3. Capital support: Grants for buildings or durable equipment.
  4. Special Project support: Grants for a one-time, non-recurring event or activity (Use Program Support for recurring events or activities.)

Arthur Jordan Foundation Interest Areas.

These are based on the original intentions of our founder, Arthur Jordan.

  1. Arts

    Organizations and programs with a particular emphasis on music.

  2. Education

    Community-based programs that support learning and educational attainment.

  3. Human Services

    Strengthen community through direct service to individuals and families, especially in meeting basic needs.

  4. Vitality of Indianapolis

    Organizations and programs that support Indianapolis as a thriving, vibrant and welcoming community.

Your non-profit must meet these requirements to apply:

  1. Grants are limited to organizations in Marion County.
  2. Organizations must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are public charities described in section 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2) and 509(a)(3). The Foundation only considers requests from organizations that have had 501(c)(3) status for at least three (3) years.
  3. Usually, no more than one request per organization per year will be considered.

The Process:

  1. Requests must be submitted through the website. No requests will be accepted by email, fax, US Postal Service, hand delivery or any method other than the website.
  2. Review process is rigorous and highly competitive.
  3. Requests must be received through the website between February 1 and April 30. Late requests will not be accepted.
  4. Organization information section and the narrative can be filled in on the website. See the Information Needed tab for additional details.

Information Needed:

  1. Mission Statement.
  2. Information on previous Arthur Jordan Foundation grants, including how the funds were used.
  3. Type of grant requests: Operating, Program, Special Project, or Capital support (see Type of Grants for a description of each).
  4. Organization Description and History for applicants that have not received a grant within the past three (3) years.
  5. Narrative description of the program, why it is important, expected results, who and how many will participate or benefit, the frequency and duration of activities, and start/end dates.
  6. Updated contact information including a Primary Contact to receive information by email.

These items must be included and can be uploaded on the website:

  1. IRS determination letter indicating public charity status.
  2. Board of Directors List.
  3. Most recent IRS 990 form.
  4. Most recent audited financial statement. If your organization does not have an audited statement, please provide the balance sheet and income and expense statement for the most recently completed fiscal year.
  5. Current organization budget and a project budget (if funds are requested for Program, Special Project or Capital support).
  6. Organization description support documentation (optional).
